I'm also very bad at writing notes that aren't verbatim, so I am trying to the condense my notes down into just simple bullet points. Yeah I'm trying to stay on top of making notes from the lecture recordings as I can sit quietly and get that done in my own space, but I have trouble motivating myself to do so. Then that contributes to me sitting there, looking at the board but daydreaming rather than listening to the prof. and even the humming noise and stuffiness of lecture theatres makes it hard to concentrate. I have been trying to just listen but I get tense and then quite angry with all of the coughing, fidgeting, whispering, etc. If I have an exam the next day I will study for 12-15 hrs and pass that exam having only briefly glanced over most material beforehand, but I know this is horrific study practice and I need to get better at it. I have been trying to go more frequently as I struggle to do work independently without there being some immediacy. My friend was diagnosed a couple of days ago and is already on meds, which he said are helping already. I may be going to the student life centre on campus also to see a psych about perhaps having ADHD. Yes, and I am considering that as I don't want to be penalised for not going to lectures, which frankly are wasting my time right now. It worked I guess as I have passed all of my exams, but I need to do better and I just can't seem to get to grips with it. If there is an exam the next day I will sit and study for 12-15 hrs having barely revised prior to that. However, I can rarely study independently unless there's a sense of urgency. I think most importantly I need to make sure I actually go over them outside of lecture. That sounds interesting, thanks! Does it work differently than just a voice recording? Like does it make a transcript or something? Because my profs put lecture recordings up after each lecture which has their voice and the software lets you skip according to each slide transition, and it also lets you change the playback speed. I can slow it down and speed it up then too.ĭo other people have this issue? I'm thinking of contacting the university and explaining this so that people don't consider me a delinquent lol I find it much easier to watch the lecture recordings afterwards, make notes from each slide and then listen to the professor and make more notes. Therefore, I tend to give up 20-30 minutes into the lecture and my concentration by that point is zero. Then when I'm trying to make notes, I'm distracted from what I'm writing (and my internal monologue) by them talking, other people chatting quietly, people coughing, people squeaking chairs, that hum from equipment, etc. The reason being is that while the professors don't go very quickly, I can't make notes on the slides and listen to what they're saying at the same time. My attendance for lectures is very poor because I find them both stressful and pointless. I'm am in my third year of university and this has been an issue from the start.
